THE design of the following pages, is to promote an investigation of the grounds upon which most protestant commentators have been led to consider the prophetic period mentioned by Daniel and St. John, as consisting of 1260 years ; and I wish at the outset to inform the reader, that I am not about to propose any new mode of interpreting the prophecies, or any speculations about their fulfilment.
